The Brick and Blade

A Highland Park family sought a landscape renovation and new pool that would reflect their lifestyle and blend seamlessly with the transitional/modern interiors of their home while still feeling connected to the architecture and site. The work included widening the circular driveway and creating a new walkway and hardscape surface for the front porch. We dropped the grade of the driveway and added a retaining wall to elevate the house and garden. In the backyard, we resurfaced the existing covered porch and designed a teak deck and pool integrated with the existing porch. Several poured-in-place walkways were designed to decompose, setting passageways that simultaneously blend with the landscape. A putting green, custom teak bench and massive 25’ long custom aluminum plant container were designed for the side yard. The landscape consists of native grasses evergreen hedges and shrubs and perennial plantings.
